PolyVinyl Chloride (PVC) Product Description
PolyVinyl Chloride (PVC) is a thermoplastic made of 57% chlorine (derived from industrial grade salt) and 43% carbon (derived predominantly from oil / gas via ethylene). It is less dependent than other polymers on crude oil or natural gas, which is non-renewable, and hence can be regarded as a natural resource saving plastic.
PVC has high hardness, mechanical properties, tensile strength and the continuous operating temperature is from -15°C to +60°C. The mechanical properties enhance with the molecular weight increasing, but decrease with the temperature increasing.
PolyVinyl Chloride (PVC Sheet or Rod) Properties
- High mechanical strength
- Good machining ability
- Good chemical resistance
- Low water absorption
- Good insulation properties
- High hardness and rigidity

PolyVinyl Chloride (PVC) FAQs
What is PolyVinyl Chloride (PVC), and what makes it a sustainable plastic option?
PolyVinyl Chloride (PVC) is a thermoplastic composed of 57% chlorine and 43% carbon, making it less dependent on non-renewable resources like crude oil and natural gas. This composition allows PVC to be regarded as a resource-saving plastic compared to other polymers.
What are the common applications of PVC sheets and rods?
PVC is widely used in construction, chemical processing, electrical insulation, signage, and piping systems. Its high mechanical strength, hardness, and chemical resistance make it a reliable choice for various industrial and commercial applications.
How does PVC perform in terms of temperature resistance?
PVC has a continuous operating temperature range from -15°C to +60°C. While its mechanical properties enhance with an increase in molecular weight, they tend to decrease with higher temperatures.
What are the key advantages of PVC in machining and processing?
PVC offers excellent machining ability, making it easy to cut, drill, shape, and weld for custom applications. It also has low water absorption, good chemical resistance, and strong insulation properties.
